簡單來說,身體有一個機制叫糖化, 這個過程中,蛋白質或脂質會被糖糖化。這個機制會因糖的數量加速。 年齡、環境、壓力等因素亦有影響

經過一系列分子反應後會產生老化標記,稱為『糖化終產物』(“AGEs”),並與膠原蛋白和彈性蛋白交叉鏈接。

After a series of molecule reactions, the ageing marker “AGEs” and collagen and elastin cross-links will be produced.

The collagen/elastin cross-links are stiff, rigid and non-functional. Ultimately skin becomes thinner, less elastic and sallow. Glycated collagen on human skin could be first observed at age around 20.

AGEs and the cross-links cannot be reversed, but can be inhibited. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) is found to inhibit glycation and thus to reduce collagen and elastin cross-links being formed. A number of studies have supported this.
